To whom and when do we recommend it?

White willow bark contains salicin glucosides, which are transformed by the liver into salicylic acid. The analgesic (pain relieving) properties of salicylic acid is such that a form of it (acetylsalicylic acid or ASA) is the key ingredient in many pain relievers, such as aspirin. As well, it may have anti-inflammatory properties, and maybe helpful for fever relief. Indications are that it is a mild antibiotic, and when combined with bismuth, helps control heartburn, gas, nausea and diarrhea. Studies have indicated it supports the regeneration of skin cells, and for this reason, is an ingredient in many skin care and shampoo products.

White Willow Bark (Salix alba)

Did you know that over 30 million people are already using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and acetylsalicylic acid daily? However, as research shows, their intake is associated with the risk of health complications, especially in the digestive system.

Nature offers you natural solutions without the risk of side effects. Take advantage of the valuable properties of white willow bark (Salix alba), which has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. It is a natural rich source of salicylic glycosides, which are converted in the human body to salicylic acid without negative effects on the digestive system. The active compound - salicin was extracted from willow bark in 1828 and introduced into medicine in place of quinine. However, its use was known much earlier - in ancient Greek medicine. Dioscorides recommended willow bark for joints. In turn, in the Middle Ages it was used as a remedy for pain and fever. White willow bark contains, among others valuable phenolic glycosides (salicin, salicortin, fragilin, populin), flavonoids with antioxidant activity (quercetin, luteolin, eriodiccjol, naringenin). It is also rich in acids (ellagic, ferulic, p-coumaric, coffee) and tannins.

How does white willow bark work?

  • supports mental and physical health
  • has a positive effect on the hormonal balance
  • supports joint health
  • cares for the strengthening of the body and its self-regeneration

Clinical studies have shown that the form of salicylic acid found in aspirin (ASA) is useful in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. It is thought to inhibit the clumping of platelets, which may in turn support improved circulation and prevent narrowing of the arteries. The results have been encouraging enough that the American Heart Association officially recognized the benefits of aspirin for patients with cardiovascular conditions.

Who do we especially recommend?

  • People who care about joint health.
  • All those who want to support mental and physical health.
  • People looking to strengthen the body.

Did you know that ... white willow bark extract is commonly called natural aspirin? However, unlike aspirin, it does not cause gastrointestinal discomfort.

White willow bark

White willow (Salix alba) - whose common name is weeping willow - grows in damp places. Its bark has been used in folk medicine for centuries. Chinese doctors recommended white willow bark several thousand years ago; in Europe, its properties were known many years later. In the 1st century CE Dioscorides was the first person to notice its beneficial effects. A hundred years later, a famous Roman physician, Galenus, became interested in her. Its bark is rich in salicin, salicortin and other glycosides, tannic acid, resin, oxalates and enzymes. In the gastrointestinal tract, salicylic alcohol is formed from salicylic glycosides, which is converted into salicylic acid only in the liver, without causing irritation to the gastric mucosa. It is well known that some products containing salicylic acid - especially if taken in large amounts - can be harmful to the digestive system (e.g. they can cause nausea, diarrhea, bleeding, stomach ulcers) and can cause allergic reactions. When taking natural products containing the precursor salicylic acid, the side effects mentioned above will not occur.
